Adirondack Roots recognizes community development and housing needs, advocates for change, and responds to opportunities within the Adirondack Region. Our goal is to alleviate economic distress, promote economic vitality, enhance personal dignity, and cultivate self-reliance through a commitment of excellence, integrity, innovation, and collaboration.
Adirondack Roots envisions a future where residents will have access to livable wage jobs; homes and communities will be in a state of good repair; businesses and the regional economy will be healthy and growing; social connections among community residents will be strong; communities will be desirable places for people and families to live year-round; and low-income households will be able to stay and succeed in the Adirondack region.
Safe, affordable housing is increasingly difficult to find in many places, including the Adirondacks. Adirondack Roots works with communities to revitalize existing housing stock while working with property owners, community groups, municipalities, and others to develop new housing.
A growing number of Adirondackers struggle to pay for housing. Many people with good jobs earn too much to qualify for support, yet don’t have enough savings or income to get a loan. We connect renters, buyers and owners with grants, vouchers and low-interest loans.
Vibrant communities don’t happen without care. They depend on the people who live there to help them grow. At Adirondack Roots, we know good housing is the wellspring all healthy communities start from. We work closely with village, town and New York state officials to promote policies that make it easier for people to live and work in the North Country.
In the North Country, we’re fiercely independent. But we also rely on our neighbors to get by. When you don’t have to worry about housing, you can focus on other things—like building a career, or participating in your community. Our rental and homeowner assistance programs have given thousands of people a ladder to a better life and the tools to sustain it.
