Residents of Clinton and Essex counties in New York State can apply for rental assistance/Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) through Adirondack Roots.

You can either download the application from our website or call us to receive an application in the mail. You must complete all questions on the application to be considered. Adirondack Roots staff will process your application and contact you to let you know if any additional information is needed. To qualify, your income will need to be lower than 50% of the median income in the county where you live.

There is often a wait list for rental assistance. If you are homeless or leaving domestic violence you will be moved to the top of the list for assistance.

You must earn less than 50 percent than the median income in Clinton or Essex counties in order to be eligible for rental assistance/Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8). (Half of all residents will live above the median, while half live below.)

Residents of Clinton and Essex counties in New York state can apply for repair assistance from Adirondack Roots. The home you are repairing must be your primary residence. Either download the application from our website or phone us at 518-873-3888 to receive an application by mail.

You must complete all questions on the application in order to be considered.

Adirondack Roots staff will process your application and contact you to let you know if you qualify and if any additional information is needed.

Adirondack Roots may be able to help you complete the following repairs and improvements:

  • Modifications that increase accessibility, such as ramps and bathroom and kitchen modifications for residents who have medically documented disabilities.
  • Repairs that address code violations or threats to health and safety.
  • Emergency repairs for homeowners 60 and older.

Assistance is dependent on available funding.

Adirondack Roots often has grant funding available to assist first-time homebuyers. The funds can pay for down payment assistance, closing costs and/or small, needed renovations. Contact Adirondack Roots at 518-873-3888  or email to find out if assistance is available at the moment.
