Megan Murphy Hired as HAPEC Executive Director

The Housing Assistance Program of Essex County Board of Directors is pleased to announce the hiring of Megan Murphy as HAPEC’s next Executive Director effective immediately. Megan is a longtime resident of Essex County and will replace interim Executive Director Alan Hipps. She will manage a $2.8 million dollar budget and $2 million dollars in assets which include 29 rental housing and commercial units.

Megan Murphy earned a BA from Fordham University in New York City. She brings years of experience in human and community services work, from health care to childcare advocacy. Most recently, Megan has served as Associate Director at HAPEC. In this role she successfully executed the strategic and operational goals of the organization. Among them, increasing staff capacity and shared equity program reach and facilitating a long awaited rebranding process.

Through her past and present professional experiences Ms. Murphy is keenly aware of housing challenges present in the North County and the negative impacts this can have on households at all levels. She endeavors to face these challenges head on with her dedicated staff and board.

We are well-positioned to build upon the organization’s strong foundation of developing innovative solutions that improve the quality of life for our community members.”

HAPEC plans to reveal its new name, logo and website in the near future.

HAPEC is a nonprofit organization founded in 1978 that recognizes community development and housing needs, advocates for change and responds to opportunities within the Adirondack Region. HAPEC offers a broad array of housing services including: Section 8 housing choice voucher program, first time homebuyer programs, home repair and rehabilitation programs, mortgage default/ foreclosure counseling and housing counseling services. HAPEC also works with local municipalities to deliver community development projects and community planning services.
